Totally agree that there needs to be more fighters who can use their personalities to cross over into the mainstream - I do think PPV holds some of this back, there's such a fun cast of characters right now that people don't generally know of because the average joe isn't going to pay $50 for one event.

You’re right Alison - the pay-per-view paywall is a bigger issue for boxing than any other sport. I think Plant-Benavidez is a terrific match up with a great in-built story but it’ll just be a niche thing in the US sadly, and won’t really register at all here in the UK. Feels like just the latest example of a missed opportunity to grow the sport!

Good article, Jake. Certainly some good fights on the horizon. Gervonta vs. Garcia is a cracker, can't see it going the distance. Plant-Benavidez, Haney-Loma, Lopez-Taylor. Shaping up to be a decent year so far.

Thanks Steve, appreciate the feedback! Agreed on the potential slate for this year, could get all of these and more in the first six months alone. Just feels like boxing could be doing a better job of selling its best products though, say what you will about Jake Paul but he’s shown up a lot more established fighters and promoters on that front.

Yep he's a fantastic promoter. If not such a good boxer!
